F1 2017 Game Review

Formula 1 is the golden apple of the motorsport which features history, speed, strategy, tension, glory, passion and glamour. There are lots of going on in a regular F1 season and even things that aren’t available for viewers and fans. This year, Codemasters capture every single element that an F1 season can offer in their latest F1 2017 game.

Codemasters is bringing new features and elements to their Formula 1 games every year, but in this year’s game, there are lots of things going on, in comparison to the previous F1 games.

Let’s dive in the F1 2017 game review!

f1 2017 4

F1 2017 features all the F1 season changes including driver roster changes, new cars, and liveries. This F1 season is very shaky in real life, as there are driver changes in the last races, but Codemasters can’t really do anything about it, so players will drive with the drivers in their respective teams that started the 2017 season.

Codemasters offers also new driving experiences with eleven classic cars (one more car which was available with Day One Editions of the game and it will be available as individual DLC soon for those who missed it) which you can drive in special events throughout your career in the F1 2017 game.

f1 2017 5

The F1 2017 Career mode is more refined than ever before. You will start by picking an F1 team to drive for, each team has their own expectations from you and your teammate. If you pick a team, your agent will guide you through your contract in her office. Yes, you heard that right, players will have a look how things are done behind closed doors in F1 2017 game. You will also have for the first time your own engineer and discuss behind closed doors R&B upgrades for the car. Codemasters in addition to all of these new changes, they have added access to hospitality suites, and the motorhome giving F1 fans a better look at the F1 motorsport.

The career mode features all Practice, Qualifying, and Race sessions in the F1 2017 game. Players will be able to complete a variety of programmes in Practice sessions that will help you and your team to evaluate the car on the track and you will be able to pull data for your team to set strategies. Codemasters has added more programmes in the practice sessions of F1 2017. On the sessions, players will also have numerous objectives as well which they can complete, earning more Research Points. Research points are earned by completing each programme in Practice sessions and completing the sessions and beating the objectives that your agent will give you throughout your season. Research Points can be used for R&D development of your car, you can choose what to upgrade and how you want to develop the car further.

F1 2017 McLaren

Throughout the career season, players can research and equip several vehicle components. Each component can give you a much better performance on the track, but also they can fail to perform like intended. There are thousands of R&B upgrades that players can equip in their car and they can unlock them all by playing through ten seasons.

The vehicle components this time play an immersive role in the F1 2017 game just like the real thing. The components, like the power unit, gearbox, MGU-K, MGU-H and much more components can wear on the sessions. If you don’t make the necessary changes you will get less power and you will be unable to control the car. Some changes can also get you penalties just like the real rules of the motorsport, for example, you will receive a grid-penalty when you will get a gearbox change.

f1 2017 3

Throughout your career, you will be invited by a millionaire to drive some F1 classic cars from his collection on special invitational events. You will be able to drive cars like the legendary 2006 Renault R26 which earned Fernando Alonso his championship title in the 2006 season, the 2008 McLaren MP4-23 which earned Lewis Hamilton his first championship title in the 2008 season and much more legendary classic cars from 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s. In addition, to the invitational events in the Career mode, there are more championship events which you can win by driving the classic cars.

Codemasters has also added the F1 logos and the introduction statistics of the tracks which they air in F1 sessions on TV broadcast, just like the real thing. There are also some more realistic touches in the game, like the air horns and the on-track local commentators which viewers can listen on the track. The British commentator David Croft and a former F1 driver and now commentator Anthony Davidson are back on duty on the latest F1 game, but there is actually a big problem, sometimes the commentary is repeated and some other times it feels out of place, for example at the end of a race without safety cars they talk about a safety car in the session, but in reality there wasn’t.

F1 2017 McLaren 2

The career mode feels more immersive and it’s much more fun and realistic for the F1 enthusiasts than ever before.

F1 2017 features a Multiplayer Mode where you can race on any track of the F1 2017 season by driving the F1 2017 cars and F1 Classic cars as well. You can race with friends and random people. The Multiplayer Championship is back on F1 2017 where you can play a full F1 season driving with random people and friends online.

Codemasters, in addition to the twenty official tracks from the current season, they have added four brand new short circuits at Britain, Bahrain, USA, and Japan. They have also added the ability to drive the Monaco Circuit at night which it looks very gorgeous!

F1 2017 5

F1 2017 includes also the Event mode which offers events that are weekly or monthly which put you through many different scenarios. You can also play the classic Time Trial mode in which you can set lap times on any track and finally you can play the Grand Prix mode in which you can create an individual race weekend or build a series of races.

The handling of the cars in F1 2017 game has been refined and it’s enjoyable to drive the F1 cars as always on gamepad and steering wheels.

The physics of the cars work very well and they are pretty realistic, however, the T-Wings introduced in this season don’t shake when you go through a curb very clumsily. The rain model has been upgraded and it’s superb to drive under those conditions. In general, everything works pretty well on the track.

The damage model looks pretty realistic on the 2017 cars, however the same can’t be said for the F1 Classic cars. For the first time in an F1 game, you can get flat tires if you step on debris at fast speed. Generally, there weren’t many changes to the model, but it looks pretty well-made.

The technical department of the game is impressive. The graphics are spectacular, the tracks and the cars look great, however, there is still room for improvement on the face models. Codemasters’ engine offers wonderful textures in general.

f1 2017 1

The audio department of the game is just excellent like every year. The F1 2017 sounds pretty well and you can get goosebumps once again by listening to those engines of the F1 Classic cars that made history on the motorsport. Players can also listen for the first time the on-track surroundings like the on-track local commentator and the air horns just like the real thing.

F1 2017 has exceeded my expectations once again, as I haven’t thought that we will ever see the day to have so many details and content to an F1 game. F1 2017 has definitely improved over its predecessor. The developers have made an exceptional work on the F1 2017 title and I’m really looking forward seeing how they can top all of this next year. The game is very accessible to everyone whether you are an F1 enthusiast or not. The assists that are included in the game can help many new players.

f1 2017

I give F1 2017 an amazing 9/10 because it’s a very fun and enjoyable F1 game that offers so much content for the current season but it includes also the history of the motorsport with the F1 Classic cars. I can strongly recommend it to the F1 motorsport enthusiasts and I can suggest to new viewers of the motorsport, to check it out.
